“It is a rare occurrence when one receives favorable comments from patrons about security. This year, however, the comments were many and emphatic. Over and over again we heard your officers went out of their way to be extra helpful.”

TRAINING
OUR APPROACH
Our Training Department’s motto, at Ligouri Associates, says it all, “Through Communication, Collaboration, Cooperation and Continued Education; we all shall succeed.” The philosophy behind the Training Department is one of Teamwork and our team consists of four distinct entities; the client, the tenant, the security professional and our company working together forming a synergy. The Training Department utilizes a five phase operation, thus enabling us to produce a quality product. The five phases are research, development, delivery, evaluation and tracking. All Ligouri Associates training stays in compliance with California Law and the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) guidelines and standards.

The development phase is the most important phase of all. Studies show that humans retain only a portion of what they hear and a little bit more of what they see. This retention has been shown to increase dramatically when the students’ other senses are engaged. When training topics are developed our primary goal is to engage the student fully. When the Security Professional leaves the training session, their retention is peaked at its optimum level. The way we achieve this is to not only include lectures but to utilize other effective tools such as PowerPoint presentations, current videos/DVDs, hands on demonstrations, scenarios, hand-outs and pre and post written tests. Once the training topic has been developed it is ready for delivery.

The delivery phase is just that, we roll-out the finished product to instruct to our targeted audience. When instructing the Security Professional, we not only utilize the classroom but focus in on site location whenever possible. This enables the Security Professional to train in an atmosphere where they will be working. An example of this would be during an Emergency Procedure Course. The emergency shut-off valve can now not only be pointed-out, its exact location can now be observed by all attendees. The training seems to make sense and there is no guess work involved. Once the training has been delivered the evaluation phase comes into focus.

The evaluatation phase is critical. This phase allows the student to critique the instructor and subject material, which was presented. This phase makes it clear to the instructor what worked well and what fell short. The evaluation phase is also when the instructor grades the pre and post test. The information from the test will permit the instructor to revamp or tweak the course for the targeted audience, if needed. The evaluation process is used to keep subject matter relevant, up to date and interesting. Once the evaluation process has been completed, we move to the final phase.

The final phase is to track the delivered training. During this phase all paperwork is graded, logged into the company data base and the course completion certificate is generated. The certificates are mailed to the Security Professional and a copy is placed into their training file. The tracking system ensures that all Officers have attended the prescribed training or it shows the instructor when a training class needs to be offered. Our goal, at Ligouri Associates, Inc., is to maintain a 100% BSIS compliance rating.
